Did you know? Corydoras have a "double defense" system! Not only do they have bony, armor-like plates (scutes) like their Pleco cousins, but they also have sharp, venomous spines in their pectoral and dorsal fins. If a predator tries to swallow them, the Cory locks its fins in place, making it a very difficult—and painful—meal!
